Dystopian Genre
Many people don't know what dystopian fiction is or what would be considered as it, and it is a confusing genre to analyze. As for me, I didn't really know the genre until I learned fully what it was and was able to realize it was a genre i was similar with and have enjoyed. I then decided to look up dystopian fiction and came upon this website:http://www.tor.com/blogs/2011/04/dystopian-fiction-an-introduction. This website contains an article discussing what this individual considers the dystopian fiction genre to be. I found it very informative and relatable, since it is what I think of the genre as well. It's a great article to check out if one is debating whether the genre is a good or simply to learn about it in a fun manner. It also gives references to other dystopian novels in case one is still interested in exploring the genre.
An Inspiration to readers
With lots of negativity in ones life, there is no doubt that one would like to read a novel which helps them escape reality. Novels ranging from romance to fantasy may help evoke positive thoughts and ideas but does that necessarily mean that the dystopian genre is one to ignore? Well not in a complete sense according to this article: http://www.nytimes.com/roomfordebate/2010/12/26/the-dark-side-of-young-adult-fiction/the-comfort-of-darkness. In this article you find the author discussing the current top hits of the dystopian fiction genre. The author not only mentions how they are a higher sense of negativity towards our real day to day lives, but an inspiration. Any reader can feel inspiration from these dystopian factors by knowing that things will not be like that for them and its not so bad in their life. It influences readers to check out the genre and how it may be an comforting genre, inspiring hope for mankind.
Never let me go dystopian or not?
After reading multiple book reviews about the novel Never Let Me Go, I found this article the most intriguing: http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1034665,00.html. In this article you not only find the review of the novel but a comparison to the author and how it was inspired. I found this article to read because you learn more about the author and how it is related to him in a way. This makes one think about the dystopian genre as a whole, and how it can be profoundly great if you like thinking and wandering off into a world of ideas. I say this because the dystopian worlds in fiction may be cruel and unfair but simply find a way of expressing our day to day problem, only in a more intensified manner. This article is pro for the dystopian fiction literature, which is what I am for as well. It also agrees with the concept of learning from this genre, such as enjoying life because it can be worse.
Fans for Kathy
When coming upon the novel Never Let Me Go, I knew it was going to be a good read. First off the cover was really pretty, and as they may say "don't judge a book based on its cover," I surely did. Knowing that I liked the novel, I knew there had to be others as well who felt the same way towards the novel. I decided to look up reviews and other supportive pieces for this novel, but found it hard to find a full website dedicated to the novel. However when I came upon this website: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6334.Never_Let_Me_Go, I found a list of readers who just expressed their support for the text of this novel. And the Winner is?
One may wonder where the dystopian genre stands in the world of literature since its is not one of the most advertised ones. Also if you were like me, you were not fully aware about it until you knew the definition of dystopian, and realized you've been reading dystopian novels your whole life! Well this website: http://www.goodreads.com/blog/show/351-the-dystopian-timeline-to-the-hunger-games-infographic shows its support from all readers for the dystopian genre. Not to mention the current standings for novels most popular under its category. It explains the genre in a further description by describing the influences through our passing years. By this I mean our political and terrorism incidents which may have inspired certain novels. Not only does it have this, but how it generates reviews from certain genders. This is a for sure website to checkout if you are a fan of the Dystopian genre.
